When public safety is paramount, think ASPEQ

ASPEQ is very pleased to be able to confirm that it is a finalist in the 2012 under $10m "best use of design" category of the New Zealand International Business Awards (NZIBA); where the winner will be announced in March 2012. This comes in a busy year for ASPEQ that has seen it being a finalist at the Wellington Gold Awards and the winner of two awards (Innovation and the Supreme Award) in the Lower Hutt Westpac Business Excellence Awards in November 2011.

ASPEQ Limited is a New Zealand company based in the Hutt Valley that has historically focussed on delivering exams to pilots and aircraft engineers in New Zealand.  From this base it has expanded into Australia and Asia as well as into non-aviation industry segments.  These segments now include professional drivers and more recently financial advisers and registered builders as they endeavour to meet their new qualification standards.

As well as theory subjects ASPEQ also carries out work place assessments for commercial pilots, aircraft engineers and registered builders where competencies are observed against agreed criteria.

ASPEQ has designed a software solution that is fully integrated from booking an assessment through to getting results and providing feedback on performance.  A unique aspect of the design is the ability to allow training providers to manage the assessment requirements for their students and gain feedback to improve their training.

The company carries out over 50,000 examinations a years, from its offices in Lower Hutt and Canberra from which it services the global network of examination centres with the vast majority of exams delivered by computer.

ASPEQ already delivers exams in more than six countries outside New Zealand from its base in Lower Hutt, and has growth plans that will take it into other industries and geographical locations in the future.  In November 2010 the company commenced delivery of exam services to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) for its aircraft maintenance engineers.  Under this agreement ASPEQ supplies its specialist technologies for exams booking, results management, exam delivery and the exam question banks.

It has also recently signed a contract to deliver examinations to the maritime industry in Australia as well as planning the delivery of pilot exams in Malaysia, both starting in the mid 2012.  Beyond that ASPEQ is focussed on selling its newly developed European standard pilot exams to several Asian locations during 2012 and working with a global partner to create more reach around the Asia, Pacific, Middle East and even into Europe.

"With our ability to supply the technology and support to organisations overseas we are confident that we will have a more scalable business product offering for regulators and awarding bodies around the world.  This also means that we can meet regulators' high standards and expectations of question design, security and data protection" says Mike Lynskey, Director Business Development.

The New Zealand aviation sector has built a reputation for innovation and excellence and is now considered as one of the nation's key areas of export growth.  ASPEQ is very proud to be part of this and uses the characteristics of quality and integrity demanded by aviation across an increasing range of other industries and organisations.
